SUPER MOMMIES

To my SUPERMOMMIES out there....

A lot of times I get asked how I balance my work and family. In my first year of being a mommy I struggled to find my balance between my work and home. I had the feeling that I was running around and getting everything half done.
After some time I realized that I had to change something with my planning. I found out that to balance these two things means to give myself equally to these areas in my life and not neglect one over the other. Creating this balance does not always come naturally and sometimes it needs organization and discipline. The benefits of a happy home and a successful career are worth the efforts.
If your life sometimes feels like an unbalanced mess?! Maybe you can consider the following ideas! These are my go to rules!

1. Establish priorities !
Even if you feel that both your work and family are important, you have to decide what takes precedence when both areas of your life need nurturing at one time, thus creating a conflict. You should not have to neglect one to take care of the other, so determine which one is the most pressing at the time. For example, if your child is sick but you have to go to work, you should choose to stay with your child because the sickness is more pressing than a regular day at work. In contrast, preparing for a scheduled meeting should take precedence over a day at the park. Only you can decide what is needed to nurture your work and family. Don't beat yourself up if you find that a work obligation conflicts with a family commitment. Decide which should take precedence by determining the significance of each, and then learn from the experience.

2. Create a list with family goals and establish a deadline !
This parallels your efforts at work to prioritize your objectives. You have to fulfill your responsibilities at work, but you may not always do the same at home. Families grow so fast that oftentimes we make plans to do things with and for the family, but they never come into fruition. Examples include a trip somewhere or a home improvement project. By writing these goals down and scheduling them, you are committing yourself to doing them. Just make sure that you follow through to aid in achieving work-family balance.

3. Revise your calendar to benefit your family as your work obligations change!
If you can get more time with your family because work allows it, then take advantage of that. There may be times when work is consuming and you feel as if you are neglecting your family. Just make sure that these moments of imbalance are compensated accordingly and that you regain your family and career balance as soon as possible.

4. Time to develop some time-management skills!
If you organize yourself well, there should be no reason why you cannot give time to your family. Time-management skills also means learning how end your day at work and begin your day at home. This may also mean learning how to say "no" when a work colleague asks you to help on a project that you just cannot fit into your schedule. This was a lesson I had to learn the hard way!

5. Talk !!
Keep the communication lines open with your spouse, and don't be afraid to voice your concerns about the lack of imbalance between home and work. Accordingly, don't be afraid to listen when your spouse accuses you of the same. Work and home balance should be respected by both parties in order to be successful.

Remember these are just some tips that worked for me. Find out what works the best for you and keep doing until that comes naturally. Life is full of surprises ! Welcome them and do more of what makes YOU happy !

Hope these tips can help you along the way !

Oh! And that GIVEAWAY on FACEBOOK is coming soon !!

Embrace the Bareface

"Makeup is not a tool meant to make an ugly thing beautiful, it is meant only to MAGNIFY the beauty that already exist !"

-Unknown-

So after all that makeup talk I thought I was time to embrace the bareface.
Today I am going to share with you my skin care routine and give you tips that have helped me along the way.
The most important thing before putting your skin care routine together, is getting to know what type of skin you have. Knowing your skin type is absolutely necessary in order to make a right decision about proper skin care or treatment, which is suitable for your particular skin needs.
The initial quality, or type, of your skin is genetically determined - meaning you are born with it. However, the health and beauty of your skin later in life largely 'depends' on what you eat and how you take care of yourself.
Generally, we can single out five basic skin types: normal, dry, oily, combination and sensitive, with each having particular characteristics and requiring specific care and/of treatment.
I have an oily skin so all the products I use are oil free.
Because I have oily skin I am very strict with my skincare routine.
I exfoliate two times a week with the ocean salt scrub from Lush cosmetics.
I really love this scrub for my face (and body).
The ocean salt scrub contains a combination of coarse and fine sea salt.
The minerals in sea salt softens as it scrubs away dirt, dead cells and blockages for a bright fresh face.
This scrub also contains fresh avocado and coconut butter to hydrate thirsty skin, leaving it balanced and soft.
The cleansing effect of lime and vodka are ideal for blocked pores, blackheads or blemish and leave skin visibly brightened.
The ocean salt scrub is beneficial for combination to dull and oily skin.
If you have sensitive, dry or normal skin I wouldn't recommend using harsh scrubs on your face. Besides exfoliating twice a week, I wash at night to remove makeup which can clog pores.
Here are some benefits of washing your face at night;

  • Touching our face all day long, without intentionally doing so, is making your face one of the dirtiest parts on your body. It’s important to clean the skin to avoid the spread of acne bacteria that can cause increased blemishes.
  • Cleansing your skin at night will reduce oil and the ability for acne-causing bacteria to thrive inside the pores. This means less break outs!
  • Your skin repairs itself at night, so removing makeup gives your skin a clean palette for applying your night time performance products for maximum absorption.
  • While you sleep, your skin is at rest allowing regeneration to occur.
  • Moisturizers evaporate when on the skin all day, so washing your skin and applying moisturizer at night ensures it will stay moist and hydrated.

Skin Tip: Too tired to wash your skin at night? Perform your nighttime skin routine at 7:00 or 8:00. Earlier is better than never!
I also wash my face in the morning. Why I also wash my face in morning ?? Overnight the skin recovers. Which means in the morning you have more dead cells to slough off. So washing your face in the morning gives your skin just that little bit extra cleansing.

For my cleansing routine I use the following products. A friend introduced me to the Clinique Anti Blemish solutions. I now swear by these products. They are a 100% allergy tested and fragrance free. Since I am using the Clinique products my skin improved soooo much. I hardly have break-outs or blemishes anymore. After I do my daily cleansing routine with the Clinique products my skin feels solo clean ! There is no better way to describe it !

First I wash my face with the wash away gel cleanser. This is a soothing, cooling, concentrated gel-foam cleanser for oily skin. Fast, easy take-off for clinging makeups.
I use the wash away gel at night and then I follow my 3 step anti blemish routine. The wash away gel only helps with taking my make up off! So after that I still have to cleanse my face.
For the cleansing part I start with the Anti blemish solutions cleansing foam. This foam immediately starts to help clear and prevent acne or break outs. Removes dirt, excess oil and unclogs pores. I massage the foam gently over my wet skin, avoiding the eye area. I rinse my skin thoroughly and pat it dry.
After that I get ready for my favorite part !! The Anti blemish clarifying lotion, I just love this lotion so much ! It is a medicated formula that exfoliates, reduces excess oil that can lead to breakouts. Unclogs pores and controls excess shine. And that is ALL I ask for !!
To finish off my routine I use the Anti blemish clearing moisturiser. This is a light, medicinal formula that helps treat existing blemishes and prevent future blockages. It also creates a barrier against substances that can cause break-outs (pimples). This clearing moisturiser also helps to keep the excess sebum under control. Calms, soothes, reduces visible redness. Last but certainly not least, it gives a light hydration to prevent dry skin.

I hope this post helped some of you with combination to oily skin ! If you are not sure which products to use on you skin, please ask you nearest beauty consultant or esthetician for advice.

IT'S A REVOLUTION

It's MAKEUP REVOLUTION ladies !! Yes, it's the name of the make up brand I am crazyyy about right now !! I am going to review all the products I ordered, soooo brace yourself !! I bought a bit of everything they had online hihihi. From lipstick to blushes!
It's going to be a revolutionary post lol.

Let's start with my first impression of the lippies, the packaging is everythinggggg !! I never had a favorite color, but I think from this day on it's going to be pink ! I am becoming a pink fanatic because of Makeup Revolution. The packaging has this luxurious shinny metal pink color. It looks soooo fancy. So I ordered seven of the lipsticks of Makeup Revolution - I heart Makeup collection. The lipsticks are called I heart Makeup Lip Geek and come in a lot of different colors.  Here are the ones I ordered;

  • Smile is the best makeup
  • Pucker up and Kiss it
  • Love for Today
  • Baby Doll
  • Ken will want me
  • Barbie is Jealous
  • Totally NOT boring!

Aren't those some cute names lol. The colors I got are a mix of gorgeous pinks, sexy nudes and one burgundy red color (specially for fall). The lipsticks have kind of a shinny satin finish. What's good about them is that they have just the
right amount of moisture, so they won't leave your lips feeling cakey at all. I think they are very well pigmented and the color selection is super ! As far as the prices goes...... (drum rolls please !!!!) wait for it ...... €3.58 !!!
YES SISTER!! You read it good, only €3.58.

I also got three color of the Salvation Velvet lip lacquer collection. Do you like matte lip colors that are touch proof, water proof and have longwearing intensity ?! Oh, and you also like dark vampy colors ?! Besides the fact that you are then my soulmate lol, the Salvation Velvet collection is your new best friend !
This is your salvation to get perfect matte lips that are touch proof (and no huns, I'm not joking !!) This collection is a lipgloss collection that goes on as a liquid and dries to a highly pigmented, bold matte finish which stays in place for hours! The collection has eleven color. I got three vampy colors to rock the upcoming seasons (you know I like my dark colors). About the price, you ladies know I got you covered ! Only €3,59 ladies ! The colors I ordered were;

  • Velvet Rebel
  • Velvet Vamp
  • Velvet Depravity

If you haven't already noticed I am an eye-makeup junkie. I love love loveeeeee everything there is to love about make up for eyes. From eye primers to eyeliners! So of course I couldn't resist buying some eyeshadow palettes and some gorgeous metal eye foils. I am telling you, I am obsessed right now with metal eye foils and finally I found a brand that sells them for a great price!

The only downside for me was that they only had five colors of these metal foils. I really hope they come out with some more colors soon !  Because they only had five, I decided to order them all lol. You will understand once I tell you what the price is; €4,79 ! Yes ladies it's true, I'm budget proof today!!

I got two of the ICONIC eyeshadow palettes, I got the ICONIC 1 and 3. Bummer for me the ICONIC 2 palette was sold out on their website. The ICONIC palettes also retail for €4,79 online. The ICONIC palettes are mixed with mostly natural & warm colors in a shimmery or matte finish. I have to admit there are a few misses, but there are enough hits to make it compelling. Let's be honest for that price no way we are complaining.

Of course I couldn't leave their website without checking out some of their highlighters and blushes. Thank God I did ! I ordered the most beautiful highlighters that I think can compete with high-end brands. They are pigmented and lay beautifully on the skin. They give the 'glowing inside out look'. They are called Vivid Baked Highlighters and I got the shades Peach Lights and Golden Lights. I will swatch them down below. The highlighters retail online for €3.59 !

In this picture I used the Golden Lights highlighter
I'M OBSESSED!!

I also got a blush palette, the ultra blush palette Sugar & Spice.
This palette is a combination of blushes and contour powders. It also has two baked blushes; one light and one in a darker color. As far as the prices goes, this blush palette is available for €7,19 online.

Check out all their products on Makeup Revolution
They ship INTERNATIONALLY !!

Are you also a fan of affordable makeup ? Or do you prefer only high-end brands ?? Share your thoughts with me!

Going NATURAL

I decided to make this next post about transitioning from relaxed(or any processed) hair to your natural hair texture. I'm currently also transitioning and I would like to share my experiences and some tips&tricks with you.

(Thank God for flexirods )

So the first thing I had to do before I even started with my transition process, was educate myself about that process. I started watching transitioning video's on youtube and reading all kinds of blogs about natural hair. The last treatment I did with my hair was January 2014, I did the Keratine process. At this moment I'm in my 8th month of transitioning. The reason why I want to get back to my natural hair is because I got tired of putting heat on to my hair. Another reason for the transitioning are my natural curls. I used to rock my curls all the time, I regret processing my hair everyday!!
I have to admit that my hair is behaving very well throughout the transitioning process. That is why I chose for a long term transitioning. This means that I will not be getting a Big Chop. I have thought a lot about doing a BC (big chop) but I'm just scared hahahah. I'm used to having medium length to long hair. The BC wont work for me, especially because you have to be very patient during the growing process.
In the beginning of my transitioning process it was very difficult to find the right balance for moisture for my hair .
I think the biggest struggle with transitioning is preventing your hair from breakage due to damage and dryness. After a while I found the perfect method that works for my hair. I try to keep my hair hydrated and conditioned every day. Three to four times a week in the evening before I go to bed I thoroughly incorporate either coconut oil or olive oil into my hair and let this soak for 30 minutes to an hour. This helps to replenish my hair with moisture and nutrients that will strengthen the demarcation line (the part of the hair where the transition is occurring).

I also started using only products that are parabens and sulfate free.  Once a month I wash my hair with Crème of Nature Argan Oil Shampoo, the rest of the month I will co-wash my hair with Cantu Co-wash. I normally co-wash my hair once every seven days. I also started getting deep conditioning treatments. I do this every week before co-washing my hair. Deep conditioning treatments take adding moisture to a new level !! Although they are only used once a month or so, transitioning hair needs extra conditioning and can handle the treatments more frequently. You can purchase a deep-conditioning treatment from your local beauty supply store, and apply it once a week. On the other hand you can choose to you make your own deep-conditioning mask. This is my HOLY GRAIL ladies !!!  You are going to need the following ingredients : 1 egg, 1 avocado, 1 banana, pure raw honey, un-refined coconut oil and castor oil ! I put all the ingredients in my kitchen blender and mix them up ! I apply the mix all over my hair and let it soak for about an hour. After that I wash my hair with my Argan Oil shampoo and style it as usual. Here are some benefits of the ingredients I use;

  • Egg: protein, omega3 and fatty acids
  • Avocado: high in vitamin E and fatty acids
  • Banana: potassium + vitamins thicken & grow hair
  • Honey: antiseptic, humectant, adds shine
  • Coconut Oil: easy absorbed hydrator with healthy fats; Lauric acid, fatty acid, provides protein & antioxidants to deep-condition, heal & re-grow hair
  • Castor Oil: promotes scalp circulation, penetrates hair follicle to increase hair growth. Prevents hair loss/breakage & strengthens hair

Another thing in keeping your hair healthy is staying away from hot tools !! Using curling irons, flat irons and blow driers can stress your hair and cause breakage, specifically at the demarcation line. While transitioning I had to learn to allow my hair to be as natural as possible. One last thing I wanted to share with you ladies is a little piece of advice; Although it can be tricky not to, the more you touch and style your hair, the more likely it is to break and become frizzy. Try not to brush your hair too often, and avoid styles that put strain on your scalp. If you do brush your hair, start from the bottom and work your way up using a comb (not a brush) !!

Are you also transitioning ? Or are you already all natural ? Please let me know if you have any tips or tricks that could help others and me through this process !

August Favorite Products

Where do I start ??!! I have too many favorite products that I want to share with you !!
I was thinking about what to post next on my blog and I came up with the idea to share my favorite products of the month August with you.
I have some hair products, skincare and of course MAKEUP !

So let's start start with some SKINCARE products.
Last month I received this shower cream in my beauty box. It's a shower cream from a brand called Greenland. The one I got was the Milky almond milk & lotus shower cream. It hydrates and balances the skin. It is also suitable for dry and sensitive skin. This shower cream is also parabens free and has no artificial colorants in it. So after I used it a couple of times I started liking it very much. The smell is incredible and it leaves my skin super soft. I never heard of this brand before so I went online to find some more information about them. I was blown away !! All their products are based on natural and organic ingredients. They offer a large selection on skincare and home cosmetics. The ingredients are tested in a natural, comprehensive way and never tested on animals. So naturally satisfying ! I also liked the packaging very much. I'm planning on ordering some more products of their assortment. Another thing that surprised me were their prices! Normally if I want a good shower cream based on natural products I will have to pay at least €10 to €13. Greenland's Milky shower cream retails in their web-shop for €8,95.
I think Greenland is here to stay ! Take a look at their assortment on Greenlandbodycare
This next product is from a brand called Anatomicals. It's a foot cream. On the packaging it saids that it's against cheesy smelling feet hahaha. For the record !! I do not have cheesy smelling feet hahah, but this foot cream is soooo refreshing. It has this strong mint scent and when you rub it on your feet it's like air-conditioning for your feet. Amazinggg !! I really loved this foot cream during the hot summer days. It comes in a cute green tube with the most funny text on it. Anatomicals is a Dutch brand and exclusively available on some websites. I think the one with the largest assortment of Anatomicals is boozy shop, but don't hold you breath on that lol ! The price is good for the product you get, almost everything from the Anatomicals is under €10 !!
The last skincare product I want to share with you is the Beautifying Oil Coconut from The Body Shop. OMG !! This is oil ladies!! Uhummmm you need this in your life!! It is a dry oil, that your skin absorbs really fast, so it doesn't feel greasy at all. You can use it on your body aswell as your face. This oil gives you that inside out glowing effect and that's all we want for the winter don't we ??
In the The Netherlands the Beautifying Oils retail online for €10. If you want to check them out, you can find them on bodyshop.com

HAIR PRODUCTS
About hair products I only have two that I want to share with you. The first one is the Deep Conditioning Cream from a brand called Cantu. I have tried a lot of deep conditionings in my life, but Cantu is by far one of my favourites. It has this very thick and creamy texture that works just perfect for my hair. You can also use it as a leave in conditioner if you have dry or damaged hair.
It really helped my hair ! Cantu is a brand for natural hair and is parabens and sulfate free. However if your transitioning from relaxed to natural hair you can also use the products of Cantu. They will help your natural hair to remain strong throughout the transitioning period.
The other hair product I'm currently loving is the Creme of Nature with Argan Oil- Perfect Edges. It's a hair gel with perfect hold that doesn't flake. Isn't that all we want from a hair gel ??!! This hair gel makes my edges grow stronger and gives them a natural shine. If you have problems with your edges breaking off I suggest you try this edge control out. You won't be disappointed !

MAKE-UP
Last but not least. My favorite make up products for August !!! I will start with products from the brand Benefit, the Porefessional and the HOOLA bronzer. The Porefessional is the best pore minimizer I have ever tried. I have oily skin and I depend on pore minimizers, primers and setting sprays so I don't grease up during the day. After seeing a lot of vloggers on youtube using the Porefessional from Benefit I decided to give it try. And ladies, it really works !! It minimize the appearance of my pores, therefor my make up stays on much longer and better. The other product from Benefit that I'm loving is their HOOLA bronzer. I personally do not like shimmery bronzers due to my oily skin. The HOOLA bronzer is a matte bronzer, that adjusts to your skin color. The great thing about that is, that you can build the color up for a more intense bronzing effect. Another thing that I like about this bronzer is that it comes with a brush that makes bronzing and countering easy for everybody. Thumbs up for Benefit ! The prices however are not the cheapest, the HOOLA bronzer retails for €32 and the Porefessional for €33. But the are definitely worth it. You can order them online on benefitcosmetics.com or if you live in The Netherlands you can get them at Douglas.
The next product is a blush from Sleek cosmetics. The blush is called 'Life's a Peach' and it is a very summery peachy color hahah (don't laugh at my description). I have been loving this blush throughout the whole summer and I'm hoping to keep wearing it in the fall also :( The blush is very pigmented so I think I could build up this color for fall season also. If you want to check out the Sleek blushes, you can on sleekcosmetics.com. The blushes retail for €5,99.
After we put on all that gorgeous make up, we want it to stay perfect all day and all night. That brings me to my last two favorites product for August (and every another month)!! They are the Urban Decay Makeup setting spray !! Once again for my oily skin these are my go to setting sprays. Urban Decay has two setting spray, the all nighter and the de-slick oil control. During the day as I go to work, shopping or running errands I use the de-slick oil control. It prevents my pores from producing to much oil. This way I can longer enjoy a matte look. When I have a long night ahead of me, I use the all-nighter setting spray. It prevents my makeup from melting-down and keeps my makeup looking gorgeously just-applied for at least 8 hours. 'Cause ladies ain't nobody got time to keep re-touching makeup when we out there having fun!!

I hope you're still awake ?! :)
Let me know if you have tried some of these products yourself and what you think of them.
I would love to hear from you!
If you have any question about the products you can leave them below !

Let's talk eyes ! MakeupGeek eyeshadows

So who doesn't love affordable high pigmented eyeshadows ?!
I know I do ! I'm sure that if you don't already, after reading this you will too.
I'm so excited about today's post ! I'm sharing with you my all time favorite eyeshadow brand.

It's called MAKEUP GEEK !! And they just came out with their first collection. I'm going to share with you how beautiful, high pigmented, AFFORDABLE these eyeshadows are.
So MakeupGeek is the makeup line of Simply Marlena also known as MakeupGeek on youtube.
Last month they launched their first collection called Vegas !!
I was so excited about this collection that I pre-orderd it. Just for you guys to understand how serious this is hihihi. I also ordered one of the pigments from this collection. I have to admit mommylife and beauty is a new excuse for buying makeup.
MakeupGeek has the most pigmented eyeshadows I think I have ever seen.
Besides the pigmentation, I also love the prices of MakeupGeek !! You can get the eyeshadow pans online on makeupgeek.com for only $5,99 !!!
Aren't those the kinds of prices that we like ?! You can buy single pans and create your very own palette with your favorite colors. I will show you mine below.
But let's get back to the shadows ! They have over 60 wonderful colors.
From the most natural shades to the most eccentric once. The Vegas collection is a beautiful palette of six very special colors. They also have six loose pigments in the Vegas collection. I have never seen such a great color combination in a eyeshadow palette before. The colors are so bright and have the most perfect texture. They feel so creamy! The loose pigments are just incredible, you don't even have to use a primer before using them. Now that's what I call PIGMENTED!
You can immediately see how much thought and care MakeupGeek put in this collection. Another thing that I like about this palette is that the shades are perfect for any season of the year. You can create from the most basic looks to the most extravagant looks. This all with one palette ! Isn't that AMAZING :)
What's also amazing about this palette is that it's perfect for traveling. You will have all the colors you need for a variety of looks in this palette.
Let's not forget the packaging, I absolutely LOVE it ! Check out the pictures ! You will see what I mean.
MakeupGeek did a fabulous job on that too.
At this moment you can only buy MakeupGeek online. I saw on their website that for now they will keep it that way so they keep the prices affordable. But, don't be sad my dear. They ship worldwide !! I have ordered a lot of eyeshadows already and the shipping costs are worth it. However I advice you to get as many colors as you can in one order, so you won't have to keep paying shipping costs over and over. Believe me, once you tried them out you will want them ALL !
This post may sound like a commercial hahaha but I'm really in love with MakeupGeek eyeshadows and want to share this great brand with you !
I created a party look with the Vegas Lights palette for you guys ! I hope you like it.
Please let me know your thoughts and what your favorite shades are :)

Taking the kiddo outside

Taking the kiddo outside

Welcome back to my blog BEAUTIFUL people !!

After I took the jump and uploaded my first post, I was amazed of all the great reactions that I received  I really didn't expect that ! For all those who shared, commented, read and liked my blog and Facebook page,

Now that I have shown you some love back it's blogging time !
So as some of you know I'm a mommy, (best thing ever btw) my son is six years old, Kayden (name meaning is warrior) the sweetest kid I could ever wished for... I know I know everybody says that about their kids, but mine really is a sweet kid hahaha.  As mommy or mommy to be you should know that you have to keep those babies busy !! Especially when they reach the 4year+ stage.. I feel that I always have to be very creative with Kayden. And believe me when I say: sometimes I just want to lay around in bed hahaha. I guess that will not be happening till he turns 10+ !!  I try to do as much as I can with him outside the house. When Kayden gets up in the weekend the first thing he asks is: "MOM, what are going to do today?? Where are we going ??". Staying inside all day is not an option anymore. I guess we are going to have a hard time when winter arrives. Sometimes I think he is going to be a party hardy when he gets older....

So last Sunday in order to prevent Kayden of losing it due to boredom  -__-' we decided to go to the Rotterdam City Race. For  those who did not know we live in The Netherlands, but we are from the most BEAUTIFUL island in the caribbean, CURAÇAO. So we got up, got dressed and went downtown. Thank God we had some very nice weather, and Kayden had the time of his life. Rotterdam City Race is an annual event, where Formula1 cars literally race in the city streets. The boys couldn't wait till we got there. Kayden was looking with HUGE eyes at the racing and drifting cars. We saw all the shows and after that Kayden was knocked out ! I guess visiting the City Race was a pretty good idea, as well a perfect way of ending our summer vacation. On Monday it's back to school ! And yes, mommies are happier than kids on Christmas morning when that back to school Monday arrives hahahah. Of course we LOVE our kids, but God bless all the teachers out there !!

Happiest Kid on the Block :)
